Black Hammock Adventures
A great place to see old school Florida, complete with airboat rides, alligators and good old Central Florida charm is Black Hammock Adventures. Black Hammock is based in the far corner of Oviedo, a city about a half hour north of the tip of Orlando. Leave your suit and tie at home for this one, this place is laid back and hang loose. There are three different spots for eating and drinking on the property. The first is the locally well-known Black Hammock Grill restaurant where they serve seafood and gator. While Florida is known for having a huge population of alligators, there are actually just a handful of restaurants that actually serve it on the menu.
There are also two separate indoor bar areas, one being called the Lazy Gator bar and the other called the Baby Gator Bar. Both overlook the water and there is even an outdoor patio area where patrons can sit on the water and enjoy the incoming breeze off the Lake Jessup. You can also check out the live alligators that are housed in cages on the property’s Wildlife Exhibit along with a few other Florida animals. It’s almost like a mini zoo with a few creatures to check out. You can check out these animals and the nearby gift shop for FREE. I know, its amazing, an attraction that’s FREE. Don’t tell Disney World. Now if you fancy some additional adventure beyond animals and restaurants, we suggest you check out the Black Hammock Airboat rides along Lake Jessup. It’s fun, fast, and loud, but at the same time it gives you a great look at Florida nature up close. The boat operators will search out and point to as many gators and other wildlife in action as they can. Tours start at $24.95.
