Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens

The Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens, known to many in Orlando as the Polasek Museum, mainly because its name is just too long say in a normal sentence. All joking aside, it’s a great museum combining a parade of homes tour of a large Mediterranean-style mansion, along with a museum complete with sculptures and paintings along with a 3-acre professionally manicured gardens that you can stroll through. This was the home of Albin Polasek, a world famous Czechoslovakian sculptor who lived there from 1949 until his death in 1961. It’s a beautiful home that’s right on the lake complete with a classical Florida Garden because lets face it, in Orlando if you have a large Mediterranean house on a large piece of property, you have to have a nice garden. Besides many of these plants and trees were originally put there by the Polaseks themselves so its definitely a part of the history.

The museum is easy to get to; located right off of Fairbanks Avenue, in the center of Winter Park. Thousands of people drive passed it every day and probably have absolutely no idea that it’s there. Because of the house and garden aspect, it’s great for those that want to enjoy a cultural experience without having to spend time in a large stuffy museum.

There are three main galleries with tons of paintings and sculptors that visitors can check out along with a Chapel that you can see. The gardens show off all kinds of plants and flowers including gingers, hibiscus, snap dragons, orchids, and bouganvillas. There are also all kinds of events, classes, and programs that take place here or you can put on your own event and rent out the facility.
