Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake Park

Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake Park is a pretty long name so Orlando locals simply call it Turkey Lake Park. The park is located off of Kirkman Rd., in Southwest Orlando near Metrowest and a small Orlando tourist attraction known as Universal Studios. Once visitors venture on past the front gate they’ll find a secluded 300-acre oasis of forest located amongst the bustling south Orlando area. Turkey Lake is loaded with lake activities, hiking, camping, picnicing, and many other outdoor recreational activities. You’re bound to find all sorts of boating activities on Turkey Lake however swimming in the lake is not allowed. Instead visitors can use the large outdoor swimming pool overlooking the lake in order to escape the Orlando heat.

Turkey Lake also offers over 7 miles of hiking trails, along with a 3-mile biking trail. There are also multiple recreation pavilions for visitors to use along with decks over the lake which is great for fishing and relaxing on the lake.

Camping is cheap and allows overnighters to park a tent for less than $7 a night. $7 dollars a night???? That’s cheaper than going out for a movie! You can also enjoy a cabin for around $35 a night, and the Unlock Orlando Hospitality Squad will be the first to tell you $35 will not buy you the most luxurious hotel room in Orlando, so if $35 is what you have, this is the place for your stay in Orlando.

For the kids, there is a massive wooden playground for them to explore. Its looks like the largest treehouse you’ve seen, built mostly with wood and tires, minus the tree. With most modern playgrounds being made of plastic and rubber barriers, hence eliminating the fun, this “old school” playground is sure incite adventure and excitement for the young ones.
