Seminole Wekiva Trail for Running & Biking

The Seminole Wekiva Trail is a 14-mile trail that runs from Altamonte Springs to the Lake Mary area. The trail runs along the old Orange Belt Railway line, which at one point was one of the largest narrow gauge railway lines in the country. The railway was originally built in the 1880′s and is now a cement path hosting hundreds of people every day that are walking, running, biking, and roller blading.

It travels among the much of the urban area in Seminole County, but most of the time people traveling on the trail don’t even notice any urban sprawl because the trail is mostly hidden by shaded trees, surrounded by plants and shrubs. These surrounding trees make it a cool place to run, temperature-wise. The trail also goes mostly uninterrupted with the exception of a few spots where you need to cross a few highway lanes. Either way, for those into fitness, its one of the best kept secrets in the city because the trail is barely noticeable in most places. Some estimates have mentioned that if you bike all 14 miles that you should be able to do the trail in about 1.75 hours. Ofcourse if you want to run the entire trail, well the Unlock Orlando Fitness Squad would love for you to contact them and tell them how long it takes you, because they just don’t want to do all that running. The trail is FREE for use and can be accessed from sun rise to sun set.
