Mills 50 District

One of the most notable sections of Downtown Orlando is the Mills 50 District, an area begining around 10 blocks East of Interstate 4 down East Colonial (Highway 50) and also travels North on Mills Avenue (17-92) about 4 blocks North of Colonial. Other names for this area include Vietnamese Town, Viet Town and the ViMi District (in attempt to combine the Vietnam and Mills).  Regardless of what you want to call the area, if you want Vietnamese Cuisine, Asian Cuisine, Independent restaurants, foreign foods and products, along with specialty goods….. you’ll find it here.  Years ago, many businesses in the area hit a major downturn and the area was in disrepair. A few business owners held out and eventually, small groups of Vietnamese business owners started businesses and settled in the area. Those establishments included restaurants, repair shops, medical offices, and retail shops that brought the area back to life. Over the last 5 years, the success of all these businesses helped create a period of rebirth and resurgance for the Mills 50 District attracting even more businesses and visitors to the area.

If you’re looking for trendy restaurants in Orlando, this is your place. Some places to try are Bananas Modern American Diner, Funky Monkey Wine Company and Dandellion Cafe. You also have your pick when it comes to dining out for Vietnamese Cuisine. Some of the more notable and well-known Vietnamese restaurants include Anh Hong, Lac Viet, Little Saigon, Pho 88, and Viet Garden. If it’s your first time going out for Vietnamese food and you want a safe bet, any of these restaurants will work for you. Many times you’ll find a small selection of Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food selections on these menus as well. Ming Bistro, a well-known authentic Chinese restaurant in town, can also be found in this area.

There’s no definite Mills 50 boundaries so if you’re looking for the area you’ll want to venture off Interstate 4 onto East Colonial Drive and travel East Toward Mills.  As soon as you see signs no longer in English……………..Bullseye, you made it! If you want to escape the land of franchised stores and restaurants in Orlando, Mills 50 is a great place for you to begin your journey.
